ABOUT TABOOK 2015

Tabook is the international festival of small and medium-sized publishers in Tabor (www.tabook.cz), which take place for the 4th year running this october. Not only offering a rich programme for the general public we try to provide a profession-orientedl festival focused on authors, teachers, librarians, books-sellers and others in the trade, especially for publishers themselves. We organise meetings, readings, lectures and conferences but also meetings between Czech and foreign (mostly european) publishers. Our intension is to create and enable space and time for intensive meetings between a few chosen publishers leading to collaboration at several levels (sharing of experiences, work on international profesional projects, dealing with rights).

Our idea is to make connection between selected publishers , present their work or their concepts of work and let them interface with czech, polish, slovak, ukrainien, french, german... editors..We also try to engage them to the professional and lay programme (discussions about litterary scene in foreign countries, lectures, author readings... ...etc) This year our guest will be Biuro Literckie from Poland, KKBagala and Artforum from Slovakia, Nobrow from England,Thierry Magnier édition from France one little publisher from Perm (Russia) etc....(we are now preparing whole programme)..and we have 40 czech publishers which present their books in the market (the hall of 19th century building in the center of the town)This year I want to intensify the "meeting part" of foreign exhibitors and make from it half a day of "inspiration forum" sort of place where you can present yours authors and projects which could be interesting for yours foreign partners. The advantage of those meeting is the time they can pass and talk together (not as in big festivals) and great atmospere of the festival...This year our main theme is Peripheries (in the wide sense of the word).

More that 50 czech and 10 foreign publishers, various authors connected by art of book, art schools studios specialized in book and illustration, book professionals present their work not only in main place of Tabook festival: Střelnice (book market in the hall in the beautiful building from 19^th century) but also in whole center of city Tabor. Tabook exploit and inhabit town buildigs an spaces: galleries, muzeum, streets, building of old electricity substation, theatre but also cafés, tea room, pubs and clubs … Tabook inhabit Tabor by book culture. Besides a rich programme for the general public – book market, readings, lectures, theatre perfomances, exhibitions, meetings with book proffesionals etc Tabook provide a profession-oriented part of festival focused on authors, teachers, librarians, books-sellers and others in the trade, especially publishers themselves.
